We’re definitely in the full swing of grass seed season – we’ve already dealt with 38 cases of irritating grass seeds so far in July!<\/p>\n

\"grass-seeds\"The sharp ends can pierce skin (especially between the toes), get stuck down ears, snorted up noses and even get stuck in eyes. They can cause irritation, pain and infection. It’s important they are removed and this often requires sedation.<\/p>\n

Any dog can have a problem with grass seeds, but some breeds with long floppy ears and longer fur are more vulnerable (25 of the 38 cases we’ve seen this month were spaniels or spaniel crosses). Cats can also have problems with grass seeds but this is less common.<\/p>\n

Try to avoid long grass areas and always check your dogs after walks especially ears, eyes and feet.<\/p>\n
