We are currently accepting applications for EMS placements at Cromwell Vets – here’s some more information about what a placement might look like for you at our practice.

EMS student experience

We are happy to take vet students at any stage in their clinical training i.e. the last three years of their course.

Opportunities available for EMS students and working hours

Our students work five days a week 9am - 5pm on one of our three streams: procedures, hospital or consults. We match our students with vets who have similar interests and are keen to teach, alongside a mentor for the placement to help them get the most of of their time with us. Students are encouraged to actively participate in all areas of the practice.

What we expect from our EMS students and what they can expect in return

We're a small animal hospital offering 24 hour care to our patients. Offering emergency care, medical work ups, imaging, soft tissue surgeries, routine procedures and orthopaedic procedures. We are a very good all-round hospital. We're happy to teach students of all abilities and confidences, and can tailor the placement to suit their specific needs. For less confident students and beginners we will offer more hands-on guidance and teaching, and with more confident and capable students we will push to take the lead in procedures, consults and on medical cases, where time allows.

Travel and accommodation

We are easily accessible by public transport, with a train station within a 5 minute walk and bus stop right outside. On site parking is limited but staff parking is available in a public car park 5 minutes’ walk away, and parking fees can be reimbursed. We are unfortunately not able to provide accommodation.

Are there any accessibility considerations that I might need to take into account at your practice?

Although the majority of clinical areas are on one level, there are some rooms with a single step that wouldn't be suitable for wheelchair users. The offices and admin spaces are all up 1 flight of stairs and no lifts are available.

We have a lovely cosy break room with comfy chairs and a tv, and a town centre location with some local green spaces in which to spend lunch breaks.
